Author: Marissa Meyer

Release Date: February 4, 2014

Synosis: (from amazon.com)

Cinder is back and trying to break out of prison―even though she'll be the Commonwealth's most wanted fugitive if she does―in this second installment from Marissa Meyer.

Halfway around the world, Scarlet Benoit's grandmother is missing. It turns out there are many things Scarlet doesn't know about her grandmother, or the grave danger she has lived in her whole life. When Scarlet encounters Wolf, a street fighter who may have information as to her grandmother's whereabouts, she is loath to trust this stranger, but is inexplicably drawn to him, and he to her. As Scarlet and Wolf unravel one mystery, they encounter another when they meet Cinder. Now, all of them must stay one step ahead of the vicious Lunar Queen Levana.

My Review:

This book is a stunning sequel to Cinder and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing all of the characters from the previous novel return and be incorporated into this story. Inspired by The Little Red Riding Hood, this novel focused mainly on Scarlet's journey to reclaim her grandmother with the help of Wolf, a mysterious character who has many secrets and can seem more animal than human. The characters from this novel also ended up meeting Cinder at the end, which was extremely interesting to see as the two stories began to merge and combine eventually into one group fighting all for the same cause and same ending. I really enjoyed the pairing of Scarlet and Wolf, though not as much as I did Cinder and Prince Kai in the first novel of the series. The book was overall, of course, beautifully written in the typical Marissa Meyer fashion and I can not wait to see what is next in store for the group in Cress.

Final Grade: A
