A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of very curious photographs. It all waits to be discovered in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, an unforgettable novel that mixes fiction and photography in a thrilling reading experience. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

My Review:

This was an extremely entertaining read and I loved the style of the novel, as the book contains a mix of writing as well as pictures to help form a complete idea of the circumstances. Riggs writes in a very complex yet satisfying way that leads the reader to put together a world that is similar to our own, yet has fantastical and magical elements to it. He completely describes and perfects a situation and setting that makes it really clear in the reader's mind, which is extremely enjoyable. The story overall was very unique which made the novel really enchanting and really draws the reader into the story, not to mention how relatable Jacob's character is. The elements to this story are kind of difficult to talk about without spoiling certain happenings, but overall the story is very worth the read and is perfect for fantasy/fiction lovers. It is a quick read when you really get into it, and I would definitely recommend it.

Final Grade: A+
